Storytelling and Movement

In this study abroad course, students will travel to Itu, São Paulo, Brazil and explore principles of storytelling and movement through experiential learning. We will spend 20 days in Brazil applying principles of digital film and dance by connecting with people in the area and documenting their stories and movement experiences. Before this trip, we will meet 3 times in the spring semester to orient students to the upcoming travel experiences and prepare to spend time in Brazil through learning about the culture (e.g., norms, Portuguese basics, historical contexts, and movement). During the travel to Brazil, we will participate in cultural excursions, digital film practices, and various movement classes including the Brazilian martial art capoeira and social dance forró with local instructors who continue to pass forward these rich art forms.
